Bayern’s takeover of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus has pushed Richards further up the pecking order.
The chance to play in the Premier League is hugely attractive for Richards, with Palace boss Patrick Vieira holding him in high esteem.
Vieira has already signed talented young winger Malcolm Ebiowei following his departure from Derby County, while Cheick Doucoure signed from Lens.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jack Butland has been out for up to eight weeks after breaking a finger in his side’s defeat to Manchester United.
