A British fisherman is celebrating after catching one of the world’s largest goldfish, in a fishery in France.
The gigantic orange specimen, aptly nicknamed The Carrot, weighed in at a whopping 67 pounds, 4 ounces.
The fish is a hybrid species of a leather carp and a koi carp, which are traditionally orange in color.
Angler Andy Hackett holds ‘The Carrot,’ a massive fish weighing 67 pounds, 4 ounces, which he caught in Champagne, France.

Andy Hackett holds up the huge fish that has rarely been seen in the fishery for some 20 years.

Angler Andy Hackett releases the monstrous catch back into the angler’s waters in Champagne, France.
The Carrot is believed to be over 20 years old and was put in a lake in a fishery in France run by Briton Jason Cowler when he was young.
But it has proven to be a difficult fish to catch over the years and is rarely seen out of water.
Angler Andy Hackett, 42, spent 25 minutes reeling it in and was delighted when it tipped the scales to just under five stone.
It weighed 30 pounds more than what is considered the world’s largest goldfish, caught by Jason Fugate in Minnesota, USA, in 2019.
And it was more than twice the size of a 30-pound bright orange koi caught by Italian Raphael Biagini in southern France in 2010.
Mr Hackett, a company manager from Kidderminster in Worcestershire, caught his record at Bluewater Lakes in Champagne, France.

The gigantic orange specimen, aptly nicknamed The Carrot, weighed in at a whopping 67 pounds, 4 ounces. He was returned to the waters after being captured.

The fish is a hybrid species of a leather carp and a koi carp, which are traditionally orange in color. Believed to be the second largest of its kind ever caught
He said: ‘I always knew The Carrot was there, but I never thought I’d get it.
‘I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went up and down with it. Then it surfaced at 30 or 40 meters and I saw that it was orange.
“It was brilliant to catch him, but it was also pure luck.”
The fisherman posed for a snap with his catch before releasing it safely and safely back into the lake. Afterwards he celebrated with a cup of tea.
Fishing owner Jason Cowler said, “We put up The Carrot about 20 years ago as something different for customers to fish with.” Since then he has grown and grown but he doesn’t get out often. She is very elusive.
‘She is in excellent health and condition. Congratulations to Andy on a great catch.’
