Rishi Sunak has dodged to say if he is a billionaire in an awkward clash with Piers Morgan.
The Prime Minister was challenged to be ‘filthy rich’ during a Talk TV interview to mark 100 days since he took charge of number 10.
After a painful pause, Mr Sunak – known as one of the wealthiest MPs – admitted that he is ‘financially fortunate’. But he insisted it was about his “values” and that he was raised to work “incredibly hard.”
Political opponents have seized Mr Sunak’s wealth in an attempt to cast doubt on whether he can understand the struggles of ordinary people during the cost of living crisis.
In addition to his own successful career in investment banking, the Prime Minister’s wife is the daughter of one of India’s richest men.

During the interview, Morgan asked Mr. Sunak, “You’re filthy rich, aren’t you?”
After an awkward silence, the prime minister replied, “Well, I think most people would think I’m financially fortunate, yes.”
But he continued, “I think people need to understand what my values are. I think that’s the most important thing.
‘That’s how I was raised. And I was raised by parents who immigrated to this country, and they came with an immigrant mindset where they were focused on working as hard as they could – sacrificing everything so that their children would have a better future, and that we could fit right in and integrate into the British life.
‘That’s how I was raised. I was raised to work incredibly hard, to do the right thing, to take care of people less fortunate than you…
“That’s the value I bring to this job.”
Mr. Sunak said, “Am I financially lucky today? I’m… most people would think I’m very fortunate financially.”
Morgan urged Mr Sunak to provide a rough figure for his net worth, asking if he is a billionaire.
But Mr. Sunak said, “I won’t go into that.”
“What counts is not how much is in my bank account, it’s about my values and what actions I take for the country.”
